How To ...

To Edit a Formula

You are brought into the Edit Formula screen either by adding a new formula, or by editing an existing one.

If you'd like to put your instructions into the tool, you can do so at any time by touching the Instructions button, entering any instructions you like and touching Done. It is not necessary to put in instructions in order to use this tool to scale your formula.

For every ingredient that you wish to add to the formula, click on the Add Ingredient text. You are brought to:

Touch "Name" to enter the ingredient name, touch "100.00" to enter the baker's percentage and click Save.

After each ingredient is added you are brought back to a screen that lists all of your ingredients and the current total baker's percent:

Keep adding additional ingredients by continuing to press on the Add Ingredient text and following the steps outlined above. When you have added all of the ingredients, click on the Done button and you can see your complete formula.

Scale a Formula

Now you're ready to scale a formula! Go to theformula you want to scale, touch the number to the right of the label "Quantity", and enter the total amount you need (be sure you're assuming consistent units throughout).

All of your ingredients now appear with the correct quantity (in the same units).

Copy a formula

You can copy any formula into any category. First, go to the formula to be copied. Second, go to the category where you want the copy and shake the iPhone. A copy of the formula will appear in the current category.

Because you can copy a formula into any category, including the one it's in, you can quickly enter several nearly-identical formulas: first, enter one of them; next, make as many copies of that first one as you need; then edit each one as necessary.

Transfer a quantity

Sometimes your formula includes an ingredient which itself is a formula. In this case you need to be able to transfer the quantity of the ingredient required by the master formula to the quantity of the sub-formula. For example, if you are baking a bread that is based on a poolish, you'll also have to scale out the ingredients of the poolish. BakersPc provides an easy and error-proof way to transfer this information.

To do this, proceed as above for scaling your formula. Now touch the ingredient that has its own formula and needs to be transferred. As long as your finger is on it, the ingredient will be high-lighted:

Now go to the sub-formula (the poolish in this example), touch the quantity value and hold your finger there until the magnifying glass appears:

Lift your finger and you will see the "Paste" option button; touch it and the quantity for the poolish is transferred.

Now click Done and your sub-formula will be scaled to the requirement of the master formula.
